Expeditionen ins Tierreich (Expeditions into the Animal Kingdom) was a hugely popular, long running German natural history programme. Teaching a whole generation about the wonders of nature, it was presented by world-renowned wildlife filmmaker Heinz Sielmann. Primarily a zoologist and naturalist, he travelled all over the world working with an assortment of creatures, and each episode introduces another topic in his varied research.

Produced for NDR, a television station in Northern Germany, Sielmann’s friendly demeanour and appealing personality meant he fast became a household name. Hugely educational, Expeditionen ins Tierreich aroused the nation’s curiosity in the animal kingdom. It ran for over 25 years and finally ceased production in 1991.
