Bellamy's Backyard Safari : Down the Garden Path
In the depths of a suburban back garden, botanist, broadcaster and environmental campaigner David Bellamy explores the intriguing world lurking within the cracks of an ordinary garden path. Shrunk down to 5mm using ground-breaking macro-photography effects, Bellamy walks among slugs, millepedes and a multitude of moulds.
Providing sanctuary from drying winds, myriad life has colonised this sheltered habitat. Microscope work and time-lapse photography brings alive the variety of fungi, slime and algae that thrive in this minuscule and protected environment.
A pioneering project from the BBC's Natural History Unit, Down the Garden Path was the first installment of Bellamy's Backyard Safari, its fun and friendly format making it a huge hit with adults and children alike.
